I don't know about everyone else but at first during COVID I was pretty happy to be doing lots of cooking at home. Tried out a few new recipes, shared some ideas with friends, experimented with some new beer pairings. But as of now I am most definitely over it and would love nothing more than to go out for food. One of my biggest priorities is trying to support local favourites through this so I wanted to share some of the places our team has been ordering in from during the dark times. Full disclosure, some of these are customers, but they are all genuinely places and meals we've thoroughly enjoyed and spent hard earned money on.
Don't forget that if you're trying to support local it's great if you can check what the best way to order and pay is for them - generally debit or e-transfer and calling for pickup rather than using an outside ordering company puts the most money in their pockets where you want it. I've included Instagram handles for all the options since that seems to have the most up to date menus for a lot of these. Happy eating!
Emma - Marketing and Finance Lead
Rebel House - my first job in Toronto was as a bank teller near Yonge and St Clair and I ate here weekly, because the food is good and they are 100% super nice. They have lots of pantry staples on offer along with a rotating menu. Can confirm the stroganoff and the shepherd's pie are great and the giant bag of flour was a lifesaver.
Clandestina was a new one for me but it was good - I was
in the mood for tacos and guacamole and they definitely hit the spot. The Baja fish tacos were the best of the three we tried.
Cait - Front of House Manager
Ramen Isshin - the veggie shoyu is a favourite for Cait but they also have a good variety of vegetarian options and lots of ramen flavour combinations.
Jess - Toronto East Sales and Marketing Assistant
City Betty - loads of rotating options all of which
sound awesome (making this list right before dinner was a big mistake. Huge). Jess has had and highly recommends the halibut fish tacos and make at home cookie balls.
Knuckle Sandwich - fried chicken sandwich is spot on! Goes well with Fisheye if you're into that.
Bodega Henriette - Jess has been using them for grocery pick ups and (can't you smell it from this picture?) fresh baked bread. They also have a lovely rotating menu with some delicious brunch options and do takeout coffee so you can't go wrong.
Johnny - Head Brewer
Banjara - Johnny gives his stamp of approval to the lamb shahi and the malai kofta.
